Hotel Voramar

We had a minor issue at the house and two days without water or electricity was more than enough so we clicked on our Agoda link and started looking for a hotel. It’s low season so pretty much everything was within financial reach but we really wanted to try something new. Hotel Voramar popped up and it is located within blocks of the Sosua One Compound. To be honest, we’ve driven past this hotel a hundred times and never stopped in for a peek - our bad. We clicked on the 8.7 traveler rating, 102 written reviews yielded a 9.2 rating for service and an 8.7 for cleanliness. $40.00 - hell yeah, book it.

The hotel is located down past the casino on Dr. Alejomartinez near Playa Chiquita. We parked outside the hotel and were immediately blown away by the place. Beautiful restaurant/bar facing an awesome pool. The owner “Hank” came out of the office and introduced himself. He personally took us over and showed us the room. The furnishings were more than adequate, this isn’t the Ritz Carlton nor is it advertised to be. The room was absolutely spotlessly clean with hot water and electricity, we are #winning!  Phones, computer plugged in and charging, hot shower completed we headed out of the room to sample the bar.. stop judging this was a Saturday.

We sat down at the bar and ordered a few libations. What’s this, a tapas menu? Oh, here is the breakfast, lunch and dinner menu… sneak peak into the kitchen, sparkling clean stainless steel fixtures, bright sparkling floor, proper food storage… whaaa. The food was delicious! Drinks, amazing. Service, wonderful. Wait, there is more. They have several large TV’s, a projector screen on the wall behind the bar and wait for it…. dare we say the nicest pool table we have seen in Sosua?

We cranked on the cold AC and slept like babies. Woke up in the morning to discover coffee thermoses sitting out on the tables and a Formula One race on the TV’s (time difference, race was in Europe). Hank and Johen were sitting across eagerly watching yet took the time to say good morning and asked if we had enjoyed our stay? Absolutely, we had a wonderful little staycation.

Not only is this a great hotel to send guests but this is also our new spot for happy hour drinks and dinner out! Check the photos, this is a great find!

You can contact the hotel directly at 809-856-2466 or their website at They also offer on-site scooter and car rentals which is great for out of town guests.

As always, feel free to leave a drink at the bar for us.
