The Sosua 10k race is happening on Sunday October 13th.
This is the 6th year of the event and it has definitely generated a good following. We’re looking forward to watching the event and cheering on our physically fit friends as they huff and puff up and down the streets. Registration is now open and there is a 10% discount if you sign up before Sept 18th.
The Sosua 10K is a family event with three separate races. The main event is the 10k road race for serious runners, that’s not us. We couldn’t run ten miles if a Ciguapa was chasing us.
( Ciguapa - a mythological creature of Dominican folklore. …human female form with brown or dark blue skin, backward facing feet, and very long manes of smooth, glossy hair that covers their bodies. They supposedly inhabit the high mountains of the Dominican Republic. Pretty sure we saw one on Pedro Clisante last year!)
“If” we were to participate, beyond cheering on the gringas from Cabarete with a cold Presidente in hand, it would be the 5k walking race, or maybe the 1k race for children. Supposedly that race is for kids between the ages of 4 and 10 years old but we’re hoping for an exemption. All three races are held downtown with the courses winding through the city. Police and race volunteers monitor the course so you don’t have to worry about a taxi or moto running you over.
Those interested in participating in the race need to register at www.sdctickets.do Start times and the exact location of the start/finish line are still being co-ordinated and will be announced shortly.
This will be a fun event so please mark it on your calendar.
